Ninety state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses, all of whom will be making their official career debuts, are entered in Friday’s New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) trials at Sunland Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s nine 300-yard heats will meet in the April 1, $175,000-added final.

This year’s Spring Futurity trials feature a pair of half siblings, J & SM Inc.’s Bigg Deal and Uno Menos’ Miss Hi Tide. A $130,000 yearling purchase at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, Bigg Deal is trained by Fred Danley, and the daughter of Big Daddy Cartel out of the stakes-winning and graded stakes placed Ocean Runaway mare Ms Riptide prepped for her debut with a 220-yard work in :12.02 breezing on February 26.

Bigg Deal drew post 7 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. in the second trial.

Miss Hi Tide is a sorrel daughter of the Dash Ta Fame stallion Woodbridge trained by Wes Giles. An $80,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, the filly prepped for her debut with a 220-yard work in :11.84 breezing on February 24.

Bigg Deal is a full sister to 2022 Desert Classic Futurity (R) winner Nineteen Crimes, while Miss Hi Tide is a full sister to 2019 Zia Futurity (RG1) winner Mister Riptide. Miss Hi Tide drew post 4 and will be ridden by Adrian Ramos in the seventh heat.

Other noteworthy 2-year-olds entered in Friday’s trials include Black Sicarro and Jet Black Dome. A $75,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs, Black Sicarro is trained by Tony Sedillo for owner Absolute Refrigeration. The Jet Black Patriot colt is out of the graded stakes winning Man On The Move mare Girlonthego and is a half brother to multiple graded stakes winners Cat Daddys Lil Girl and Ryansmanonthemoon.

Black Sicarro drew post 5 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala in the seventh heat.

Jet Black Dome was a $100,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Sale and races for La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC from the barn of trainer Xavier Rodriguez. The brown daughter of Jet Black Patriot is out of the Dome (TB) mare Domeinitchy (TB) and is a half sister to three stakes winners, including graded stakes winners Gonna Cha Cha and Moonflash Cat.

Jet Black Dome drew post 9 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon in the ninth trial.
