A dozen New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds, led by defending champion and morning-line favorite Strawberry Whisky (pictured), are entered in Sunday’s 7-furlong, $100,000 O.D. McDonald Stakes (R) at Albuquerque Downs.

A 6-year-old son of the Sunday Silence stallion Fusaichi Zenon (JPN) owned and trained by Celio Trujillo Jr., Strawberry Whisky will be stretching out in distance off of his second-place finish, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Tucum, in the 5 1/2-furlong, $100,000 Casey Darnell Stakes (R) on September 16. The dark bay or brown gelding has won two of his six starts at Albuquerque Downs, including last year’s O.D. McDonald Stakes.

Strawberry Whisky drew post 5 and will be ridden by Aldo Arboleda.
