Susans Violette (pictured), a 5-year-old daughter of Stellar Rain owned by Steven D. Stewart and trainer Chip Woolley, heads a full field of 12 New Mexico-bred fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s 6-furlong, $100,000 La Coneja Stakes (R) at Sunland Park.

Susans Violette ended her 4-year-old season with a convincing 4 1/4-length victory in the 5 1/2-furlong, $100,000 New Mexico State Racing Commission Handicap (R) at Sunland Park on December 28. The mare has won six of 11 starts and has earned $252,888.

Susans Violette drew post 4 and will be ridden by Enrique Gomez.

Other contenders include Flight Song, a multiple stakes-winning 4-year-old daughter of Attila’s Storm trained by Todd Fincher for owners R.D. Hubbard and Shaun Hubbard. Flight Song is coming off of a sophomore campaign during which she won three stakes, including the 6-furlong, $145,000 New Mexico Cup Oaks (R) at Zia Park on October 27.

Flight Song drew post 3 and will be ridden by Alfredo Juarez Jr.
