Major Game, a graded stakes placed son of the Walk Thru Fire stallion Gronkowski, is one of 66 state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses entered in Friday’s 350-yard New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3) trials at SunRay Park.
Trained by Eric Valenzuela for owners Jaime Perez, Andres Estrada, and J. Santos Espinoza, Major Game will be stretching out in distance off of his third-place finish, one length behind winner Jesses Wish, in the 300-yard, $313,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park on April 3.
Major Game has won one of two starts and has earned $39,773. The gelding drew post 6 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. in the third of seven trials.
Valenzuela will also send out Mr Tres Effort, a homebred TF Featured Effort gelding owned by Carlos F. Paez. Mr Tres Effort has banked $27,252 from two outs, and he is coming off of a fourth-place run in the New Mexican Spring Futurity.
Mr Tres Effort drew post 9 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr. in the fifth heat.
Another New Mexican Spring Futurity finalist, Sheza Ahotmess, drew post 6 and will be ridden by Gerardo Vera in the first trial. Guadalupe Munoz Jr. trains the homebred daughter of champion First Moonflash for owner Sherree Meridyth.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the May 22, $120,000-added New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity final.
