Fanncee (pictured), a homebred 4-year-old Big Daddy Cartel mare racing for Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms, drew post 10 for Saturday’s inaugural 350-yard, $50,000 Champagne Lane Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred distaffers at Albuquerque Downs.
Trained by Wes Giles, Fanncee has earned $161,428 from 10 races. During her 3-year-old season, the mare ran second in two New Mexico-bred derbies, including the 400-yard, $203,000 Zia Derby (RG2). Fanncee will be ridden by Adrian Ramos as she makes her first start since June 25.
Fanncee’s eight opponents include William R. Robertson’s Icy Morning Breeze, a homebred 4-year-old Winners Version mare trained by Jackie Riddle. Icy Morning Breeze will be making her third start of the season and her first lifetime start at Albuquerque Downs, but she ended her sophomore campaign with a victory in the 400-yard, $30,000 New Mexico Cup Distaff Stakes (R) at Zia Park.
Icy Morning Breeze drew post 3 and will be ridden by Hector Aldrete.
