Let Him Be (pictured), a 4-year-old son of the Afleet Alex stallion Sway Away campaigned by V Bar V Racing LLC, will put his win streak on the line in Sunday’s 1-mile & 70-yard, $100,000 New Mexico State University Handicap (R) for New Mexico-bred Thoroughbreds at Sunland Park.
Let Him Be has won six of his seven races and has earned $258,740, and he’s won his last three starts, including the 6-furlong, $150,000 New Mexico Classics Derby Championship (R) at Zia Park on November 27. The gelding’s two stakes wins include last year’s 1-mile, $100,000 Casino at the Downs Derby (R) at Albuquerque Downs. Joel Marr trains Let Him Be.

Let Him Be’s 10 opponents include Henry On The Run, a 7-year-old Attila’s Storm gelding trained by Andres Gonzalez for owners Abel Montoya Duarte and Eduardo Miramontes. Henry On The Run is coming off of a nose victory in the March 8, 1 1/16-mile Albert and Henry Dominguez Memorial Handicap (R).
