Ten state-bred juveniles, led by fastest qualifier Pavel (pictured), are entered back in Saturday’s 300-yard, $354,467 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

A son of the Corona Cartel stallion Czar Cartel MV owned and trained by Jorge Luis Sanchez Jr., Pavel broke his maiden with a three-quarter length victory in the sixth of 10 New Mexican Spring Futurity trials on March 16. The gelding was a $6,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Pavel drew post 9 and will be ridden by Luis Martinez.

Jaime Martinez’s Purple Queen, a daughter of Eye Am King trained by Jose Efren Meraz and the second-fastest qualifier, made her career debut with a half-length win in the ninth trial. The filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by Daniel Avila Jr.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Leftie (Jose Luis Enriquez), 8-1
Jett Black Rocket (Daniel Amaya), 5-1
Fast Copy King (Esgar Ramirez)), 12-1
Suspicious Jess (Sergio Becerra Jr.), 8-1

Also on Saturday, Eye The King leads a group of a dozen state-bred 2-year-olds entered in the 300-yard, $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R).

A $100,000 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale, Eye The King is trained by Eric Valenzuela for owner M & J Ranch. The gelded son of Eye Am King made his debut with a head victory in the first New Mexican Spring Futurity trial.

Eye The King drew post 5 and will be ridden by Sergio Becerra Jr.
